Angļu valodas studentu tematiska vārdu krājuma bagātināšana ar datortehnoloģijas rīku palīdzību

Abstract

Maģistra darba mērķis bija izpētīt, vai ir iespējams uzlabot konkrētu vārdu apguvi, mācību procesā izmantojot datorprogrammu Quizlet. Pētījuma mērķa sasniegšanai tika aplūkotas teorijas par vārdu krājuma apguvi, tika izpētīta leksikas mācīšanās attīstība, kā arī dažādas pieejas, tai skaitā datorizētā apmācība vārdu krājuma apguvē. Tāpat tika analizēta arī pētnieku attieksme pret datora lietošanu leksikas apguves mācību procesā, kā arī datora izmantošanas priekšrocības un trūkumi. Lai stimulētu veiksmīgu datorizētu apmācību leksikas apgūšanā, tika izvēlēta programmatūra Quizlet. Quizlet ir bezmaksas tiešsaistes rīks, ar kura palīdzību studenti var izveidot zibkartes. Šīs zibkartes ir praktiski pielietojamas, un tās var izmantot kopā ar citiem studentiem, tādējādi attīstot vārdu krājumu. Metode, kas tika piemērota pētījumā, bija daļējs eksperiments. Eksperimenta rezultāti parādīja, ka mērķa grupa, salīdzinot ar kontroles grupu, sasniedza ievērojamu progresu angļu valodas tematiskā vārdu krājuma bagātināšanā. Pētījumā tika noskaidrots, ka Quizlet palīdz audzēkņiem būtiski palielināt savu vārdu krājumu, tādēļ tas var būt ieteicams kā noderīgs angļu valodas vārdu mācīšanās un mācīšanas instruments.

The aim of the present Master Thesis was to investigate whether the process of topic-specific vocabulary learning may be enhanced by the implementation of a computer-assisted vocabulary learning approach into the learning process. For this purpose theories concerning vocabulary knowledge were addressed. The development of vocabulary learning as well as different approaches including computer-assisted vocabulary learning were overviewed. The attitude concerning the use of computer in the vocabulary learning process expressed by various scholars was thoroughly analysed, as well as advantages and disadvantages of the implementation of computers into learning process were provided. For successful computer-assisted vocabulary learning a computer application Quizlet was chosen. Quizlet is a free online tool with the help of which students can create, share and practice their flashcards, thus, enhancing their knowledge of vocabulary. The research method that was applied to the current study was a quasi-experiment. The results of the quasi-experiment reveal that the target group of learners, in comparison to the control group made considerably bigger progress into their English topic-specific vocabulary enrichment. It was found out that Quizlet helps learners to increase their word stock to a great extent; therefore, it may be recommended as a useful tool for English vocabulary learning and teaching.
