Citādības atspoguļojums Amitava Goša romānos

Abstract

Postkoloniālajā literatūrā citādības jeb alteritātes jēdziens dominē diskusijās par Rietumu imperiālisma politisko un sociālo ietekmi. Literatūras teorijā citādības jēdzienu var aplūkot no divām perspektīvām - viena ir fiziskā citādība, bet otra ir iekšēja atsvešināšanās no noteiktas grupas vai sabiedrības. Šī darba mērķis ir analizēt, kā citādība tiek attēlota Amitava Goša romānos „Magoņu jūra”, „Ēnu līnijas” un „Kalkutas hromosoma”. Šajā darbā izmantotās pētniecības metodes ir literatūras apskats, teksta analīze un atziņu interpretācija. Atlasīto romānu analīze parādīja, ka varoņu citādība un ar to saistītie aizspriedumi ir atšķirīgi atkarībā no romānu tēmām un laika periodiem, kuros norisinās romānu darbība.

In postcolonial literature, the concept of otherness or alterity has been predominant in discussions of the political and social impact of Western imperialism. In literary theory the term otherness can be viewed from two perspectives – one being the physical otherness and the other being the internal estrangement from a certain group or society. The goal of this paper is to analyse how otherness is represented in the novels Sea of Poppies, The Shadow Lines, and The Calcutta Chromosome by Amitav Ghosh. The research methods applied in this paper were literature review, text analysis, and interpretation of findings. The analysis of the selected novels showed that the otherness and the subsequent prejudice the characters face vary, depending on the themes of the novel and the periods in which they are set.
