PAPILDLITERATŪRAS LASĪŠANA ANGĻU VALODAS VĀRDU KRĀJUMA BAGĀTINĀŠANAI 10. KLASĒ

Abstract

Vārdu krājumam ir liela nozīme saziņā. Lai gan ir veikti daudzi pētījumi par to, kā bagātināt vārdu krājumu, praktiskās nianses mainās atbilstoši izglītības sistēmas jauninājumiem. Tādējādi Latvijas izglītības standarts paredz skolēnu patstāvīgu konteksta iesaisti mācību procesā, kas varētu būt angļu valodas papildliteratūras lasīšana, ko darba autore redz kā iespējamu risinājumu skolēnu vārdu krājuma bagātināšanai. Bakalaura darba mērķis ir izpētīt, kā papildliteratūras lasīšana angļu valodas stundās 10. klasē var palīdzēt skolēniem bagātināt viņu vārdu krājumu. Pētījums tika veikts laika posmā no 2022. gada oktobra līdz 2023. gada aprīlim. Kopumā plašajās lasīšanas nodarbībās piedalījās 29 10. klases skolēni, no kuriem 14 bija šī gadījuma izpētes paraugs. Kā datu vākšanas metodes izmantots vārdu krājuma tests, skolēnu lasītāju dienasgrāmatas un anketa skolēniem. Dienasgrāmatas sniedza informāciju par rūpību uzdevuma veikšanā, anketa sniedza vērtīgu ieskatu par skolēnu viedokļiem un ieguvumiem no plašās lasīšanas, visbeidzot, vārdu krājuma lieluma tests pierādīja, ka papildliteratūras lasīšana bagātina skolēnu vārdu krājumu. Tika konstatēts, ka plaša lasīšana ir veiksmīga metode skolēnu vārdu krājuma bagātināšanai. Rezultāti ir balstīti uz vārdu krājuma lieluma testa rezultātiem, kas liecina, ka vidēji skolēni no lasāmvielas apguva 8% no vārdnīcas vienībām, kas atbilst B2, C1 un C2 līmenim. Skolēni kuri viscītīgāk pildīja lasītāju dienasgrāmatas, sasniedza augstākus rezultātus un labāku izpratnes līmeni. Studenti ziņoja, ka papildliteratūras lasīšana palīdzēja viņiem paplašināt vārdu krājumu un uzzināt vairāk par dažādām vērtībām. Bakalaura darba autore secina, ka nozīmīgais rezultāts sasniegts ne tikai ar lasīšanu, bet arī ar papildus diskusijām stundās un vārdu krājuma uzdevumiem. Pētījuma laikā ierobežojums bija īsais laika periods un semestra plāna pārmainiīšana lasīšanas stundu iekļaušanai. Varētu veikt turpmākus pētījumus, pētot ne tikai vārdu krājuma, bet arī gramatikas un pat teikumu struktūru uzlabošanu ilgākā laika periodā.

Vocabulary is important in communication. Although there have been many studies on how to enrich vocabulary, the practical nuances change according to the innovations of the educational system. As the Regulations Regarding the State General Secondary Education Standard and Model General Secondary Education Programmes provides students' independent work involvement in the learning process. The author of the Bachelor’s Thesis sees which could be extensive reading in English to be a possible solution for enriching students' vocabulary. The aim of the Bachelor’s Thesis is to research how extensive reading carried out in lessons of English in Grade 10 can help students enrich their vocabulary. The case study was realised in the period from October 2022 until April 2023. All together 29 Grade 10 students participated in the extensive reading lessons of which 14 were the research sample of this case study. Vocabulary size test, readers’ diaries of students and a questionnaire for students were used as data collection methods. Diaries provided information about the diligence to the task, questionnaire gave valuable insight about the opinions of the students and their benefits from extensive reading, lastly vocabulary size test proved that extensive reading enriched the vocabulary of students. It was found that extensive reading is a successful method to enrich students’ vocabulary. The findings are based on vocabulary size test results showing that on average students learnt 8% of vocabulary items representing levels B2, C1 and C2 from the reading material. The students who were most diligent to filling the readers’ diaries were the ones who achieved higher results and better level of comprehension. Students reported that doing extensive reading helped them enhance their vocabulary and learn more about different values. The author of the Bachelor’s Thesis concludes that the significant result was achieved not only by reading but with additional class discussions and vocabulary tasks. During the research the limitation was the short period of time and managing the semester plan for incorporating the reading lessons. Further research could be done researching not only the enhancement of vocabulary but also grammar and even sentence structures in a longer period of time.
