Celebrating the 35th anniversary of the Friedrich Cander Museum, we look back at the complex history of its foundation and transition to the auspices of the University of Latvia. The Friedrich Cander Memorial Museum was founded in 1987 and was located in Riga, Zasulauks, Candera Street 1, in the house where the famous rocket engine designer Friedrich Cander lived from 1898 to 1913. Two years after its foundation, the museum passed under the control of the University of Latvia and in 2005 it moved to its premises at Raiņa Boulevard 19. In this article, we will consider what obstacles had to be overcome in order to establish the museum at all, what problems it encountered during its existence, and what successes the museum had at its work.en_US
