Latvijas luterāņu baznīcu interjera simbolika

Abstract

Autors diplomdarbam “Luretāņu baznīcu interjera simbolika’’izmantoja Latvijas novadu luterāņu baznīcu interjera simbolikas materiālus un veica izpēti un aprakstu par baznīcu interjera simbolikas attīstību no tās pirmsākumiem līdz divdesmitajam gadsimtam. Diemžēl, par daudzu novadu luterāņu baznīcu interjera somboliku, materiālu ir ļoti maz, vai vispār tie nav saglabājušies. Izpētes materiālos ir aprakstīta interjera simbolikas attīstība, no vienkāršas, trūcīgas interejera simbolikas līdz interjeram, kas kļuva bagātāks un krāšņs. Līdzās interjera simbolikas attīstībai autors aprakstīja faktorus, kuri ietekmēja tās attīstību, krāšņumu un bagātību, un kuri to izpostīja, sagrāva kā piemēram Otrais Pasaules karš, padomju varas ideoloģija un tās atbalstītāju naidīgo rīcība. Luterāņu baznīcu interjera simbolika ir kultūrvesturisks materiāls par vienu no mūsu tautas kultūras attīstības pirmsākumiem un tās likteņgaitām.

The author of the diploma thesis "The Symbolism of the Interior of Lutheran Churches in Latvia" explored and analyzed materials related to the symbolic elements found in the interiors of Lutheran churches across various regions of Latvia. The research traces the evolution of church interior symbolism from its earliest stages up to the twentieth century. Due to the limited availability—or in some cases, complete absence—of documentation in several regions, the research was often constrained by a lack of sources. Nevertheless, the study outlines the gradual transformation of interior symbolism: from initially minimalistic and modest designs to increasingly elaborate, ornate, and expressive interiors. The thesis also identifies and discusses the key factors that influenced the development and visual richness of these sacred spaces. These include both contributing and destructive forces—on the one hand, cultural and religious influences that fostered symbolic expression, and on the other, devastating events such as World War II, Soviet ideological suppression, and the deliberate neglect or destruction of religious heritage by regime supporters. Ultimately, the interior symbolism of Lutheran churches in Latvia is not only an aesthetic or liturgical element—it represents a vital part of the nation’s cultural and historical legacy, reflecting the spiritual and cultural journey of the Latvian people.
