Dzimis, lai mirtu: nāves cēloņi Vidzemē 19.gadsimtā

Abstract

Darba pētījums veltīts Latvijas vēsturē maz pētītai tēmai par nāves cēloņiem 19. gs., analizējot un salīdzinot baznīcu metrikās minētos nāves cēloņus trīs Vidzemes luterāņu draudzēs – Ērģemes, Liepupes un Valmieras laika posmā no 1834. līdz 1900. g. Darba mērķis ir sniegt ieskatu mirstības un nāves cēloņu raksturojumā Vidzemē 19. gs. Darba sākumā apskatīta vispārīgā situācija Vidzemē 19. gs. un medicīnas attīstība Eiropā un Latvijas teritorijā 19. gs. Vairākās nodaļās izvērsti sastopamākie nāves cēloņi, kas iedalīti vairākās grupās – bērnu un zīdaiņu nāves cēloņi, epidēmijas, pieaugušo nāves cēloņi un citi cēloņi. Pētījuma rezultāti apliecina, ka 19. gs. joprojām bija augsta zīdaiņu un bērnu mirstība, bieži letāli iedzīvotājus skāra epidēmiska rakstura infekciju slimības, pieaugušie miruši no dažādiem cēloņiem.

The present research is devoted to a rarely researched topic in the history of Latvija – the causes of death in the 19th century by analaysind death cause records in church books from three Vidzeme Lutheran parishes – Ergeme, Liepupe and Valmiera in 1834-1900. The aim of the Thesis is to provide an insight in mortality and death causes in the 19th century Vidzeme. The first part of the paper gives the overall situation in Vidzeme and the development of medicine in Europe and territory of Latvia on the 19th century. Several chapters deal with the most common child and infant death causes, epidemics, adult death causes and other causes. Research results confirm that infant and child mortality was still high in the 19th century, epidemic infectious diseases were often fatal and the deat cause of adults varied.
