Corporate accountability in the age of globalisation: a legal and diplomatic analysis of human rights violations and international crimes

Abstract

The thesis analyses the corporate accountability for the human rights violation and international crimes. The main objectives of the thesis are to assess the effectiveness of the existing legal frameworks for addressing corporate accountability and to examine the necessity for future development or reform of these norms. For that purpose, the thesis focuses on the historical analysis of globalization, Business and Human Rights as a legal field, existing legal frameworks, prominent case-law and political and diplomatic challenges in attempts to create new international legal norms. As a result of the research, it was possible to evaluate the shortcomings of the existing international legal frameworks and critically examine the prospects of the adoption of a new binding treaty dedicated specifically to the Business and Human Rights issue.
